Ecommerce in Germany has been growing day by day by the popular business leads. Germany has been considered to be Europe's largest economy. Amazon is an American e-commerce brand established in 1990. It has registered a firm for the brand in the German market and is also the third-largest website in Germany. Besides, Amazon is the third-largest e-commerce website in the world. It has been selling a large variety of products online. You can get everything from Amazon- from books to furniture, accessories, digital media, apparel, electronics, video streaming, and cloud computing. Moreover, it has strengthened its stand in the German market. Amazon's total trading volume over the German marketplace is 17.67 billion euros, and it reaches the value of Germany in the year 2019/2020 worth 10.2 billion euros.
Otto is a German-born brand that started as a mail-order company in the year 1949. Now, it has transformed into the largest e-commerce organization in Germany. It has done its part in competing with the Amazon brand across the world. It is operating in 20 countries across Europe, Asia, and America. Based on Otto's reports, over 57.27 million people have been visiting the Otto ecommerce site monthly. It offers a wide range of products in categories like fashion, sports, electronics, home, and much more. It attracts most of the German customers with popular items like homeware, apparel, and electronics. In the 2019/2020 financial year, Otto had generated revenue worth of 3.5 billion euros in the e-commerce sector. It was an increase of 3.2 billion euros compared to the previous year.
Every year Germany conducts several e-commerce events. Based on a survey in 2015, it was found that over 47 million online shoppers in Germany were keen on using invoices (preferred online payment method). In the year 2020, it was found that the online customers who have been using preferred payment method were likely to use PayPal while other prefer to use invoice, credit cards, and direct debit as their payment methods. Handelsverband Deutschland shared a few interesting statistics about e-commerce in Germany last year. The market value was worth 53.5 billion euros in 2018, and for sure, the value has doubled in two years.
